You must complete the following steps to setup a new email account in Mozilla Thunderbird. Click here to download this manual (Includes screen shots!):
Step 1: Open Mozilla Thunderbird Click on Start -> Programs - > Mozilla Thunderbird
Step 2: Open the account configuration window From within Thunderbird select Tools -> Account Settings
Step 3. Add Account Click on Add Account.. Specify that you want to Create a new Email Account then click on Next
Step 4: Enter your details Enter your Name and Email address. This name and email address will appear on email sent from your computer. Take special care to ensure that the email address is correct, otherwise replies on your emails won’t come back to you! Click on Next.
Step 5: Choose Manual Server Settings Specify the type of server and server name for both your incoming and outgoing servers. The server type is usually POP. For email accounts hosted by Mattelo both the server names are mail.yourdomain Click on Next
Step 6: Username Specify your incoming Username. The username will be used to authenticate you against the email servers. Note that for email accounts hosted by Mattelo you must specify the complete username including the domain name. This means that if your email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it you must specify the entire address and not just koos. Click on Next.
Step 7: Account Name Specify your Account Name. The account name is displayed so that you can correctly identify this email account if you are using multiple accounts. The account name will not affect the functionality of your email account, but the way it appears in Thunderbird. Choose a descriptive name the click on Next.
Step 8: Edit Outgoing server Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left hand menu and then click on Edit on the Right hand side of the page.
Step 9: Insert Outgoing server information Description should be something descriptive, like Mattelo. The server name is mail.mattelo.co.za and the port is 25. Make sure that you select the Username and password check box. Failing to check this box will result in a message from the server saying that: “The recipient is not in my rcpt hosts file” when you try to send email to a recipient whose email is not hosted by Mattelo. Your username is your full email address for example This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . The Use secure connection should be TLS, if available. Click on OK to close the window. Click on OK to close the Account Settings window.
Step 10: Testing your email Click on Get Mail and enter your password that was provided to you. You have finished setting up your new email account! |
